SCENT WORK FOUNDATION WORKSHOP (90mins)

Learn the scent work game!  This workshop introduces dogs and owners to the world of detection scent work by using high value treats. These are single 90-minute sessions and suitable for beginners.

 

INTRODUCTION TO ODOR (3 x 60~90mins)

Pre-requisite: Scent Work Foundation

Using a structured 4-step process, handlers learn how to introduce a target odor to their dogs. We start to introduce teamwork too as handlers must now actively participate in the search process. To ensure teams learn and have a chance to practice their skills, this course is now 3 sessions in length.

 

INTRODUCTION TO VEHICLE SEARCH (1 x 60min)

Pre-requisite: Scent Work Foundation OR Introduction to Odor

The car is like a big complicated box. In this class, we introduce you and your dog to searching for odors on vehicle. 

 

PROGRESSION SCENT WORK COURSE (Regular monthly class)

Pre-requisite: Introduction to Odor

This course is for teams that want to keep challenging themselves and growing in the sport of scent work. Each month, we learn something new and teams must commit to practicing between classes. There is a progression roadmap to help teams see how they are growing. 

 

MANTRAILING/TRACKING

Mantrailing is a sport where dogs find "missing" people for fun by following their unique scent trail.  DM us on Instagram to indicate your interest.

 

SHELTER PROGRAM

Scent work is excellent for dogs’ mental health! It allows them to practice agency and tires them out.  We would love to help you add scent work to your shelter’s enrichment program.

SG K9 Scent Work's positive, fear-free, and dog-centric focus aims to create a supportive and enjoyable experience for each dog and human. There is more than one way to learn any skill and we do not claim to be the only way nor the best way.

We value humility and respect – to embrace the fact that we are being led by our dogs in scent work because their noses are so much superior to ours, and our role is to partner and support them.  We believe that we can learn a lot from our dogs when we observe and understand their behavior. And we absolutely think we learn a lot from each other’s unique perspective and insights.

Because dogs are dogs and not robots, results may vary. But you will come to class with the best dog in the world and you will leave class with the best dog in the world. Our dogs did not register for the class, nor did they pay the fees. They only know they are spending time with you, eating high value treats and doing what they do best – sniff.
